Don't Rush...

good advice there, personally i can't sit on the stand after i shoot a deer, i HAVE to get down immediately. i fixed this problem by telling myself that by getting down within 10 minutes you can retrieve your arrow but you have to go home and get something to eat before you can take up the trail!! last fall this worked perfectly, i hit my buck a little back and i wanted to go right after him, i found my arrow and after closer inspection decided that since it was hot i'd go home and shed some clothes and grab some lunch and come back in a few hours. i came back 3 hours later and found him less than 100 yards curled up at the base of a tree just over a small hump i couldn't see from my stand. there was no blood on the outside but inside he had problems, caught some liver and the stomach, he was kind've stinky but since i knew he was paunch hit i brought a gallon of water back with me for washing him out.

i was overjoyed and so was my wife for she was the one who helped me recover him!

I also have to get out of the tree right away. It is a lot safer for me that way. I get down and I start back to the truck and about halfway there I start to get the shakes so bad and it won't go away. I would hate to try to climb out of the tree that way. I usually go for a drive, talk to neighbors, and come back in an hour or so. It has worked out pretty good for me so far.
