I will try to keep this as short as possible but I do want yo warn you that this will take a while to read.
So there are a few things that you need to know before I can start my hunt story. First off, Timber Point Camp was an absolutely beautiful area and Wayne and Sheila could not have been more hospitable!! They are some great people and run a great camp.
Now a little about Wayne. Wayne fixes everything under the sun and is a jack of all trades. He is also a get-r-done kind of guy. So when the first night up hells trail we broke a chain on Andy's four wheeler he had it fixed in a mater of no time. But because of the broken chain we decided that wheeler was no longer capable of taking both of us up Hell's Trail, (to the stand). So Wayne lets me use his the first night, and I manage to crack the crank case. Let me remind you that this trail is straight up and down at some places and you ride your brakes 85% of the time. So now that wheeler is out of commission, or "bike" as they call them in canada.
So now we are at the night of the hunt and Wayne brings out old red. A four wheeler that has easily spent more time upside than right side up. It was Waynes trusty sidekick for years!! But it had no brakes.NO BRAKES AT ALL.
So we make it to the stand with only a few scares. About two hours in me and andy look at each other, exchange a few comments and start laughing so hard that I may have cried a little. I said "come on lets get serious eh." Andy replied with "RALLY CAPS" so we put on the rally caps and set tight.
About twenty minutes later andy is snapping at me saying GOOD BEAR GOOD BEAR!! He came in directly behind us and swung around back into thick cover. After about 20 minutes of waitign, I catch movement by the bait barrel. The bear was back and he was coming in! Andy whipped around and got the camera on him just in time for him to clear the brush and head for the barrel!!
He came in head on and stood like that for what seemed like an eternity licking the lucky honey that Amanda had sent out with us. And as soon as he looked like he was going to turn broadside, I was at full draw! He turned beautifully and I sent a Buzzcut right through his lungs. I was pumped!! I hit right were I aimed and was fired up.......... We were pumped and headed back for the camp to get wayne and to retrieve this bear!
During the excitement on the last hill, no more than half a mile through camp, I crested the hill in second gear and thought I was going to fast so I attempted to kick her into first to slow old red down. In my excitment I kicked right on through first and into neutral. I am now hauling some serious four wheeler butt and looking for a tree to hit. I scream some choice words and turn her right into the bush. What I didnt realize was I just steered off a huge drop as I start to gain speed I finally hit a tree. What I dont remember is if I busted my knuckles on the wheeler or punching a tree????!?!?!
ANYHOW.... we get back to camp and it is now pitch black and we elect to wait untill morning to go find my bear.
The next morning we hit the trail at first light and found my bear about 60 yards from the shot. It was a beauty of a bear and I couldnt have been more pleased!! It was a great trip, with great people. I really want to thank Andy and Amanda for putting up with me all week and for making it all possible. Not to mention, I don't know what I would of done without someone looking after me.
P.S. I only fell out of the boat once.
