My 13 year old son and I got up early and got into our stands as the cold weather was just right. Right at light, we had a couple deer come in on a trail 10 yards from the tree. I thought the lead deer was a doe (I'm horrible at telling the difference some days). It walked to within 4 yards of the tree. I made a good shot and it went down 30 yards behind our stand within sight. Good feeling and good way to start the day. The second deer (doe or button), hung around the area for the next 10 minutes trying to figure out what happened. Another 5 minutes go by and a nice little 5 point walked in. My son had his tag and this deer was on the same trail as the one I shot. He got ready and drew when the deer was just about in the shooting lane. I grunted softly and stopped him at 10 yards broadside. The next thing I know, my son's arrow flys through the boiler room. He ran the same route as my deer, but jumped a creek and dissapeared. We sat for another hour, as I still have my buck tag, but no bucks. We trailed his deer for about 25 yards in a field of switch grass. He made a great shot. What a day.
