Dove Strategies

How many of you plan to hunt doves? And if so, what is your strategy going to be? After carefully scouting out the prospects, I've decided on the "spot and squat" strategy. Here's how it works...

Drive a lightly travelled gravel road with a partner. At some point, you'll spot doves sitting on the road feeding on spilled grain, etc. That's the spot. Then, drive by and send them to flight. When you get to where they were, drop off a well camo'ed hunter in the ditch. The squat. My scouting has shown that the doves spooked will circle around and come back to the same location within a couple of minutes, setting up a great ambush. Rotate spotter and squatter and you've got a fun day of dove hunting :D So there you go...spot and squat. Other ideas??

I usually lighten the poundage on my bow, remove the sight, change the tips on my arrows and take an extra dozen or two with me......... :D
Sounds like you have a plan; happy hunting!

I was thinking just pop them off the bird feeder ;)

Was thinking about trying some falconry? :D:D:D

I'm sitting in a motel in the middle of nowhere Texas. First dove hunt in my life tomorrow morning so I am excited. We saw a ton flying over us as we sat around drinking Busch Lights this evening. Guess the fields we have are loaded so it should be fun. Good luck up north folks.

We usually plant 2 or 3 acers of sunflowers and then bushog some strips in it. You can kill doves like crazy on that. It really is lots of fun.
