Driver or Stander??????

hey ya'll just kinda wanted to get everyones opinion. this is also a question for you hunters that believe sitting in your treestand sun up to sun down, even with a gun in your hand, is the only way to get that mature buck. while hunting deer during gun season would you rather be a driver or a stander? and why? <ul type="square"> i myself prefer to be a driver. during our 1 week gun season i am out there from sun up to sun down monday thru sunday but my sitting time for the whole week probably wouldn't even total 3 hours. to me sitting with a gun in your hands is way to boring, you got to keep deer moving
<ul type="square"> yes, i wanna get that big buck just like everyone else and yes being a stander would be the logical choice but i really think that being the driver is so much more fun. also i guess i am kind of a big hearted hunter because i am just as happy if someone in my party gets a deer as i would be if i shot one, if it's getting late in the season and none of us have got a deer i will always make sure that the people in my hunting party get deer before i do, that's just the way i am and also the people in my hunting party are not obsessed with whitetails and hunting them as i am and they get depressed when times get tough and they give up, so i like to keep things exciting.
<ul type="square"> another reason why i like being the driver is that i am a huge fan of the "spot and stalk", i believe that the "spot and stalk" method of hunting is by far one of the biggest ways to tell how good of a hunter you really are, and with being a driver everytime, i can use this time to perfect my skills and most of the time get a shot before i even jump the deer, leaving the standers out to dry.

i can't think of one time that i haven't volunteered to be a driver. also there's no challenge in being a stander.
• so let me hear it which would you be and why.

Can't wait to hunt with you this fall. I'll let you drive them toward me all day. Just glad I know where you stand and that I will not be disrespectful letting you do all the driving and me doing all the standing.

Oh to answer you question it does not matter to me. I like doing both. I have killed deer both ways. I go with the flow, and if someone wants to do the driving then I will stand but if I know that someone would rather stand than drive I will drive and be fine with it.

I would like to use my treestands to hunt out of with my rifle, but the landowner doesn't let any of us do that.

So, during rifle season, I prefer to drive. I hunt with a landowner and the rest of our hunting party consists of his relatives. So, I like to drive the deer to them out of respect and to thank them for letting me hunt their land. And of course, they usually end up with the big ones.

Being one of the younger fella's in my group, I get Driver duty every year. I don't mind it, especially on those really cold days. I normally shoot more deer being the driver than a stander. I have gone out and deer hunted by myself and had more success walking rather than sitting and hoping one walks by (see my picture to the left). I'd rather kick them up and hope I get a good shot at them. I won't take the shot unless they are fairly close and aren't moving all that quickly. Unless they have a tree on their head, then I might unload on it. Haven't had that situation present itself yet so I don't know.

I myself would rather sit and let the neighbors run them onto our farm and just sit and wait. I will usually sit all day and see plenty of deer which keeps me happy. But if we are going to push deer I want to be where the big buck will be and sometimes it works better to be a stander or a driver so it just depends on the particular drive I guess. I also really like to follow behind the drivers and still hunt about 20minutes after they start the drive. But overall I would rather just sit in a deer stand and hope at a chance at one that gets by the other hunters.

I like being a stander but very seldom was I chose to stand, but when it was doe day, I would slaughter them, 99 season I got 7 in one drive, Talk about some excitment. I really never did alot of driving un like my buddys, I tend to just go solo and walk and sit do calling. That gos for bow and gun.

I like to be the drive coordinator. It seems like over the years I've been on some very productive drives and some other ones that nobody had a clue what was going on. My prefered choice would be a stander if I can trust the guys that are running the drive to run it properly. otherwise I would probably be the driver so I know the job gets done right. I tend to stick out on the outer edge, to get a crack at the bucks breaking loose out the edges, or the ones trying to circle us. My absolute prefered choice is by far stand hunting, its way more enjoyable for me and I usually see alot more deer that way. but once in awhile it's fun to get together with the boys and do a deer drive especially late season with muzzleloaders. The best deer drive I have ever been on was in southern iowa. We just gained permission to hunt a huge tract of land, the problem was we werent really sure how to run it. The old boy that owned the land rolls up in an old truck, looks out the window and said "I'm gonna put you boys on a deer drive and you better be ready to shoot" This guy was about 80 but he knew his stuff, he took all the standers to their position came back explained the lay of the land and what the deer would do, and let me tell you, somebody that has ran that timber for 40+ years knew his stuff. We had a blast and shot alot deer
