Drop seeder?

Anyone use a drop seeder? I am specifically curious about using a drop seeder for frost seeding NWSG on frozen ground and also planting brassicas & grains in the fall (I am guessing you could drop seed switch, but not with the fluffy stuff unless there is an auger type drop seeder?)

A drill would be my first preference, but I figured if I frost seed anyway then a drop seeder might do the same thing for NWSG at a lot less cost for the equipment.

I don't need it to provide tillage, roll, etc. Just plant...at a calibrated rate off seed size.

Just curious what others know about such an implement.

I don't know if a drop seeder will work on WSG fluff seed, it would for switchgrass.

I bought a Truax "Seed Slinger" broadcast seeder for my atv, it has augers for the fluff seed mix in the main bin and a separate compartment for hard seed. I did 116 acre dormant seeding with it 4 years ago and have a very nice stand of WSG / forbs now. It will cover 6'-8' with each pass depending on the wind. I calibrated it and ran 6 mph to get the correct pounds of mix per acre.

I've decided the truax ATV sling seeder will serve my needs for the time being. I plan to frost seed 15-20 acres this winter. Actually I hope I can mount it to a utility tractor (a lot easier with cruise control).

The only place I have found to purchase is directly from Truax. Anyone have any other sources, perhaps in Iowa?
