Drop Tine

I think most of us would agree that taking a drop tine buck would be near the top of our hunting accomplishments. Being as rare as they are, I am asking about your imput. How is a drop tine created and will that deer continue year in year out to produce such a rack. Thanks for your opinions and or imput.

In most cases, yes it will stay, but it is not a guarantee.

Genetic trait that may show annually or may not. Some areas that genetic trait is much more prevalent. I have seen them on young deer and seen old deer all of a sudden express the trait.

this is what I have always through...depending on the side of the body that will be the side to experience a drop tine. Who knows, I sure dont.

Most of the time the opposite side antler growth will suffer from an injury.

I have always been told its the opposite side of the injury that produces the freak nasty points. I would say it is rare to have a buck with drop tine genetics and most get it from injury during velvet. Who knows for sure
