Duck blind

I don't have any new big buck pics to post and I know some of you guys like to waterfowl hunt in addition to chasing big whitetails, so I thought I would post the before and after pictures of our new duck blind. It is in a choice spot on the Rock river, and we had teal and geese doing flybys the whole time we were working on it. Guess where I will be when the weather is too nasty to be in a treestand. We have a gas stove and heater just to make it feel like home.

When does the weather get too nasty to be in a treestand??????

I have a new type of waterfowl delicacy to munch on thanks to our local waterfowl guru Cloaca. Something about the goose or teal wrapped in bacon and Jalapeno...just makes me want to go buy steel shot.

Blind looks good btw.

I knew someone would ask that! I am just saying I have spent enough days hanging on for dear life as wind blew my tree stand around like a tilt a whirl. And I never had had good luck with bowhunting in a downpour or during a heavy snowfall with wind. It sure makes the ducks active though! I am lucky that I have a career that allows me to have plenty of free time in the fall so I don't feel so bad about changing things up once in a while. Thanks for the comment though!

Thanks for sharing a pic. You've got it blended in great. I've been over the Rock River in Janesville, WI and it looks similar to your picture. Sure looks like there is potential for varied waterflow that could really change in a hurry. What do you secure your decoys with and do you leave them out for the season?

Hey Shredd, after Sat. and Sun. opening weekend, I can't believe you didn't stop over to see if my grill was on or not! We had plenty to share.

There really isn't to much variation in the water flow during the fall and winter in this spot. The spring is a different stoy though. As for securing the decoys we make daisy chains with heavy cord and big snap swivels and heavy anchors. We also use full body duck and goose decoys on the sandbar in front of the blind and use homemade rebar stakes to secure them. We also pick up and put out the duck decoys every day since they have smaller weights and will drift off on a windy day.
