My 12 year old son took his first buck ever last night, he shot a 3 1/2 year old 10 point that should score between 120-130. I will post pictures later. It was way more exciting watching him take his first buck than any booner deer I have ever taken. He also showed way more restraint than I ever could have at his age. By the time he shot him we had 7 different bucks and about 4 does within 80 yards of us, all out on one of our fall oats food plots. It was quite a show, we had bucks sparring, making scrapes, and half way chasing the does around, pretty much a complete circus. This was all before 5:30, I can only imagine what was still coming to the plot...I think I will have to find out later this week when it settles back down in there.
It was also his first hunt sitting in a stand by himself...Instead of being with him I sat on the ground about twenty yards away, and let him make his own choices, I was watching the whole deal and screaming inside my head for him to shoot one, as we had talked about earlier in the day than any buck is a trophy when its your first and that he should be happy to take anything that he could, I guess he had more restraint than me because I would have been happy with him shooting the first little buck that showed up.
Anyway...with the rut activity I seen Saturday and the size of the deers neck that my son killed, I would predict there is going to be some huge deer taken the rest of the week.
