Early Rut ? Any thoughts ?

I have read a few interesting articles that suggest a early rut...moon phase etc. Any thoughts on this ?

well haven't heard much but i will tell you what i have noticed compared to years past. now i live in ohio, quite aways from you so it will may vary!

it is much colder right now, than it has been at this time of the year for the past 5-6 years
i truly believe that the days seem to be already getting shorter, to me it seems a little earlier than years past, and we all know that shorter days makes that estrous begin to bubble.

so as for this area i would say that definetly yes the rut will seem to happen a little earlier! good luck

hard rut will always be starting near the begining of november and going through turkey day

I think the weather has been a little cooler but the days don't vary in length from year to year!!!!

It feels more like "rut weather" to me as well. I agree with muddy, though...the rut will be pretty close to when it always is.

The good news is that we're only a week or so away from when the pre-rut really gets going. I saw more deer last year during the pre-rut than during primetime.

If I am not mistaken, I believe the rut is triggered by the amount of light in the days? I have noticed a few more scrapes than normal this year though. Who knows, my bet would be that it will be no different than any other year.

I have seen and caught on film several buck young and old chasing does and even catching one since 9/27. I'm sure the main rut is at least 3 weeks away but there seems to be a few does coming in early this year.

there are always going to be the early starter bucks each and every year regardless of moon phases and air temperatures. for the past dozen hunting seasons i'll see it happen time and time again. i'll even bet that a few does come into season earlier thus making these few deer go bonkers (no, not you fishbonker) earlier. a few years ago it was hotter than blazes all season long. i saw a few dinks bumping does in october but the main push was in between that last weekend of october thru most of november. always going to be like that. that being said, get out and hunt!

Seemingly every year someone starts a post about the "early rut". I see scrapes and rubs and bucks chasing does, etc, at nearly the same time every year. Granted, unseasonal weather can accentuate or suppress what we see during the daylight somewhat, but I am of the opinion that the real key factor is length of day and that doesn't change significantly year to year. As it relates to the rut... hunt the calendar.

So, I am not a subscriber to the "early rut" theories, but that shouldn't stop anyone else from hunting now!

That being said, I am looking forward to this weekend because it will be unseasonably cool. I think, apart from any "early rut" action there should be good movement in relation to a normal mid-October period.

My thoughts are, once posts, in the harvest report, start popping up like springtime morels, it's time to be in the tree

That is when it is a good indication that it is smoking hot out
