Not sure if it would actually call a buck in yet, however, I've got a blurry pic of two sparring probably only a week out of velvet.. very light rattling shouldn't hurt any IMO. I've grunted one in 200 yds across a standing bean field on opening day before.
The time is wrong but the date is right. They will start right when the velvet comes off. Don't know if you would actually call one or not, but you never know. The second pic looks like they got after it pretty hard.
I have had good success tickling antlers on opening day and plan on having them with me every day. Turned a lot of buck around headed the other way all season.
Shot my biggest buck rattling on opening weekend. A 4.5 and a 5.5 year old fought for 5 minutes straight and as soon as they finished I hit them together for a minute straight. Both came right over...shot the 166" at 7 yards....all on video.... There is hardly ever a time when I won't rattle...had about 7-8 videos on trail cams of deer fighting last pull, with some locked up real good!
