Hey all,

I know everyone has a little tricks for something it seems. I thought a post for early summer trail cam pics would help some of our newer members and maybe even teach an old dog a new trick /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

No doubt that most of run trail cams from the time turkey season closes till the time antlers drop. But in my opinion, earlier in the summer it is the harder it is to get pictures of bucks. Although they are running in groups it can be hard to find them.

So whats everyone tip for getting pics of some good bucks in velvet?

Mineral sites are an awesome spot to get some good pics if you have the patience to leave your cam up for a couple of weeks. Mineral sites get used heavy at the right time of year but not daily like a feed pile.

Make sure and knock down ALL the tall grass in view of the cam so you don't get pictures of the grass blowing back and forth.

This time of year the ground is soft, look for fresh buck tracks and get a cam up.

They're hitting the mineral licks like crazy and that'll continue for the next several months. I probably won't put my cams out for about another month but it's getting to be that time of year.
