No camera yesterday afternoon, I was just taking a quick drive and by the time I figured out I forgot it, I wasn't going back after it.
West of Crawfordsville on Sockum Ridge road, I spotted a small buck (maybe 5 points, 130lbs) and at first glance a horse about 380-400 yards away. Binoculars came out and saw it was an elk cow, deer was chasing her. Not sure what he was going to do if she did stand for him, her tail was about the height of his nose.
Anyway, another pick-up passed me while I was sitting there so there must be some others in the area that have seen it. Escapee from a game farm?
 
We've had two wild elk wander into southeast Nebraska in the past couple of years. About two years ago, a six point bull that got hit by a sportscar on the Interstate. The bull was killed and the driver of the car was lucky to survive. The other elk was a young bull that wandered into downtown Lincoln one morning. He was down near the football stadium but eventually found his way back safely out of town. Never know when they are going to show up.
 
There was picture and article in the Des Moiners Register on a bull elk being spotted in the Marshall County area.The DNR thinks it's wild,but have had no reports of any escapee's from any elks farms.
