iam going elk hunting this fall and i was wanting to use a .270. do you think that has enough knock down power?

.270 is a good cartridge, it has the power to knock down an elk with the right shot. I carried one for a number of years with no worries in Montana. justt make sure your get a bullet with some weight and good balistics. Where are you headed?

.270 Win, I don't think would be enough. The .270 Weatherby Mag however should be plenty.
Hunt on All4s

.270 wby only has 300 mor foot pounds and 200 more fps at the muzzle than the .270 win. and the difference decreases as the bullet gets farther from the muzzel. they are pretty even up as far as i can see

To answer your question klages the 270 is more than enough to kill an elk or any north american species. Shot placment is key and the 270 is flat shootin and will do the job for those 350 yd shots. Its not the gun it's the man behind it.

good rifle just shoot a load that has bit more controled expansion to penatrate thick hide and dense muscal tissue and bone mass. if you tak a 350 yard shot and your shot wanders abit you have have a hard time. perfect whitetail gun though. you can barrow my 300 win mag if you pm me.

Hunter's have been using the .270 to hunt Elk more years than I've been alive. Seems like you've got the half that use magnums, and then you've got the half that use .270's. I myself use a Weatherby magnum, but like someone above said, shot placement is much more critical than how much powder you're packing.
