Elk Hunting

Some friends and I are thinking about trying an elk hunt out West in the next couple of years. We are leaning toward Wyoming partly due to draw odds, but we are not limiting ourselves. None of us have tried it before, but we would definitely like to try and be there during the bugling season. Since we have never tried it, we are not familiar with any areas that have elk, and we don't have time to scout these areas out, we are leaning toward going guided. Do any of you have any suggestions?

If you and your friends are familiar with horses and packing them I would suggestion you get an outfitter to do a drop-camp for you.

Have the outfitter leave you several horses to ride, and a couple of pack animals to get any meat back to your camp that you harvest.

Also having horse allows one to move camp if needed.

I have had many very good Elk hunts utilizing outfitters for drop-camp elk hunting.
