Well, the seasons over now. My son Colton and I closed out the season tonight sweating in a groundblind waiting for his forked 8 pointer. He never showed, but Colton did not seem nearly as bummed as me. He has passed quite a few good bucks with his bow all season, waiting for one that he really wanted, thats 3 seasons in a row now. He shot 4 good bucks with the mloader starting when he was 8, but then wanted an old one with his bow, which is tough when you only have maybe 1 day a week, with school and sports. The Hook buck we were hunting in Nov. at 20 yards, did a Ninja/matrix arrow duck, unreal video, frame by frame, when he got his best chance before thanksgiving. Its been great weather to bowhunt in though.
Monday night, the 9th. I finally got the buck I have been hunting since he showed up around thanksgiving. I shot low with my mloader, 1st shotgun and grazed him, but got another chance yesterday with my bow. I was in a groundblind and the wind was slightly blowing into the clover/brassica field with 15 other deer getting nervous, when he came out in range. I did not even think about turning the camera on this time, and just shot him. Thats the first deer of ours in 5 years that I did not get on video, and it killed me to not be able to rewind and go frame by frame to see what happened, but when I went to look an hour later he was down 50 yards in the timber. I am always real cautious when not sure on the shot, especially after tracking him for 2 days during shotgun, sure he was dead.
Its been an interesting season.
