Ethical trap & release?

I know many of you have sweet corn patches whether they're several acres or maybe only a few rows. How do you defend against raccoons and other animals that try and eat the harvest? Would it be legal or ethical to trap and relocate the raccoons with one of those live traps? I've heard of some people using electric fences around their sweet corn if they have a small patch. A lot of people have dogs too. What do some of you use to deter animals from invading your sweet corn?

Electric fence was the only thing that I found worked. One low to the ground for the coons, and one chest high for the deer.

My in laws have good luck with two strands of hot wire placed fairly low to the ground.

My uncle's family has kept the coons away by having a dog that since it was a pup, was taught to stick around the sweet corn around the house and they say that works best. But they also said it is tough to find a dog that is willing to stay around the corn all day.

I'm not sure about the live trapping and relocating thing...........really all you're doing is giving the problem to someone else.

Not if you dizzy them up real good with a hammer prior to release. That way they can't find their way back home.

I have some friends that are farmers. and they use live traps and relocate in the dirt..:evil

Place a radio in the patch, hot fence, and a coon dog is what I found that works best. The coon think they here people and its a radio. You dont need all of the above items.

I've heard of the radio method also.
