euro mount help

SCOFFIN

Miles Coffin
Ok, I've had a deer head sitting outside all summer hoping the bugs would help with the euro process. Checked it out today and it still looks the same as the day I found it. What are my options now? Soak it in water and start cutting?

Should have burried it.. i have some stuff that rehydrates dried hide but cant think of the name for it right now.. try some water with maybe some dawn dish soap to help thin it ..

Baaaaaaaddddd idea...I've done this for my last 4 euros it will STINK. You'll stink for days after you get that crap on you! Take it and boil it! I'm getting a boiler this year because I'm not dealing with that AWFUL smell again. It's so strong it makes you gag and throw up if you even get one smell of it. If you do that, just do it during the fall and work on it daily and replace the water daily.

Easiest thing to do - is the hide still on it? If so, dunk it in a bucket for a day to soften the hide, then cut/pull the hide off (wear rubber gloves), it's not too bad after only a day. After that, strap it down to an upside down pallet or something similar and hit it with a pressure washer if you have access to one - it will be clean in a fraction of the time it takes to boil one. After that search skull whitening online and go from there. I've done hundreds of skulls this way.

Yep, Shoot2Kill nailed it.... soak and pressure washer all the way.... even better with a heated pressure washer!

The stuff I was thinking about is called Ultra-Soft.. Its a hide relaxer and you can get it from Matuska Taxidermy Supply.. Is there still brain matter in it? If not, then most of the stink should be gone.. personally, I would rehydrate it, and burry it and leave it until next spring.. the powerwash method would work also, just be careful around the nose if you want to keep the delicate bone structure intact... Euro mounts on un-fresh skulls sucks no matter which way you do it.. good luck
