Below is information on a great educational opportunity for those interested. I attended the conference for the first time last year and was very impressed. It's located just a few miles into WI from Dubuque. Here's the info:

Dear Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference Enthusiast,

Registration is now open for the 2007 Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference to be held in Sinsinawa, WI on Saturday, March 10, 2007. As a past conference attendee or someone who has inquired about the conference, you are receiving the very first announcement of the conference, prior to any general publicity or mailings. Register now to pay the lowest registration fee and to reserve your place at the conference. Last year, we did fill to capacity. Read on to see what we have planned for 2007!

More Information Available to You! To help you determine which presentations to register for, we asked each speaker to contribute a short description of his/her presentation. These are available online at: http://basineducation.uwex.edu/gpsp/ and click on “Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference.” After viewing the presentation descriptions, you can click on “Register Now” and go directly to the online registration website. (Adult Participant registration is at the top of the online registration list, followed by Youth registration and Exhibitor registration.) If you registered online last year, your name, address, etc. will already be in the system and it will be even quicker to register this year.

Also available at the http://basineducation.uwex.edu/gpsp/ website is a pdf of the registration brochure so you can view and/or print the brochure if you want a copy for your records.

Registration Fees and Deadlines: You can save money by registering early. Registration on or before February 10, 2007 will be at the rate of $35 per person; after February 10, 2007 it is $45 per person. Online registration requires payment via credit card. The registration fee includes a continental breakfast, buffet luncheon, refreshments and a conference resource packet with handout materials. Online registration will close March 3rd or when the maximum number of participants have been registered, whichever is first. No walk-in registrations accepted. Cancellations after February 24, 2007 will not receive a refund of registration fees.

Youth Sessions: This year, we have added a series of sessions just for youth in grades 5-8. The youth sessions will be separate from the adult sessions. A variety of forestry topics, including Alien Invaders of the Forest, Woodland Wildlife, Woodland Mushrooms and Tree Identification will all be explored through hands-on activities, art projects and presentations. The cost per student will be just $10 and registration is limited to the first 20 student registrants. For youth to participate in the conference, they must be accompanied by a paid, registered adult participant. The youth series will fill up fast so register early. For a complete youth session agenda, go to: http://basineducation.uwex.edu/gpsp/ and click on “Tri-State Forest Stewardship Conference.”

Bread Order Forms: If you are a regular conference attendee, you may be well aware of the delicious goodies that come from the Sinsinawa Mound Bakery. As a conference participant, you are in no way obligated to purchase from the Sinsinawa Bakery. The attached order form is for your convenience if you do choose to pre-order items from the bakery. Do not return the form to me. Mail, fax or e-mail your order directly to Sinsinawa Mound. All the necessary information is on the attached bread order form. You will pay for your bread order when you pick it up at the end of the conference.

Arriving Friday night in anticipation of our early morning start on Saturday? Call Sinsinawa Mound Conference Center Guest Services at (608) 748-4411, 7 days prior to the event, to make your reservation.

If you have general questions about the conference, you can e-mail or call me (Peggy Compton, 608 342-1633; peggy.compton@ces.uwex.edu). For additional details about the Youth Sessions, contact Sharon Klavins (klavinss@uwplatt.edu; 608 342-1772).

Hope to see you at this year's conference!
