Fall planted buckwheat??

I have 3-5 bags of buckwheat that is a little over a year old now and has been kept well inside, etc. I also now have a couple of acres of new, bare dirt as I just had a new pond built on my property near Iowa City. I was going to use my G5 drill to plant something here in the next week or so to protect the bare soil, etc, and I happened to remember the buckwheat that I have that really should go in the ground soon, etc.

What if I planted the buckwheat along with grass seed and/or switchgrass seed? The buckwheat could function as a nurse crop I suppose as the real deal is the grass seed in the mix too.

I planted buckwheat with rye and radishes middle of last summer. We were not getting much rain (my bean plot had failed). The buckwheat did great and the deer loved it. I never got much rye up and I'm not sure why. But I tilled it all up and put in beans this spring anyway.
