A bit off topic but, anyone finding "Hen of the Woods"? Have yet to find one but, heard they're up already.

Is that the same as "Goatsbeard"? About the size of a basketball, and similar in looks to coral reef?

anybody got pics? had terrible luck with morrells this year, wouldn't mind getting some fall srooms, but i didn't know there were such a thing. what do you look for? what do they look like? how do you cook them?

Just yesterday I located a huge ball shaped thing. It was snow white and firm, solid throughout. it was bigger than a basketball. Edible? I just let it roll down the hill.

sounds like a "puff-ball" mushroom, they are edible but i wouldn't eat them after they spore out, they get all black inside and will explode thier spores, when they are all white they are edible, although they don't taste nearly as good as other mushrooms

yea, it's actually the firt one I've ever found on a live oak and by far my largest chicken. ive found bigger hens but not as good looking

i cut the pelts off and dip in egg just like a morel then I used crushed "Ritz" crackers as bredding as I think they hold the crisp a lot better also use for fish with some seasoning

i also put some in the crockpot with a a wild turkey breast with some cream of mushroom and chopped up veggies, was pretty much amazing
