Final Day of the Project

I estimate that they've cut down 150-175 mature soft maples. I am very satisfied with their work and their carefulness when their working. Very cautious, but have the get it done attitude. Took roughly 4ish total days. Everything's on piles now and ready to get hauled.

Also appreciated them being aware of field conditions if it got sticky and or a little muddy, they just quit. All the logs had to come about 3/4 mile to the road.

I've heard loggers have certain reputations in the past, but these guys weren't that, they are first class fellas. Very respectful of me and my property.

Their going to make some pretty good money on the project, but they need to they have first class equipment and not a bunch of junk. Overall experience was good.

First Day I felt like I was asking a lot of dumb questions because I know nothing of Logging, but they didn't seem to mind.

I am looking forward to the Hardwood regeneration and watching the farm transform in the next 2 years.

Awesome!!!!!
Last time I sold soft maple was when lazy boy was a big buyer in making funiture out of it. Guessing that’s what it still is??
My last sale was like 15+ years ago and I’m GUESSING it was like .60-70 a board foot?!?! Maybe?!

150-175 trees - ballpark how did you make out on that? If you don’t wanna say, no worries!!! & how many acres was that across?

You are gonna be super happy with results later. By definition…. Look at MOST soft maple stands…. Very little cover, almost no browse, full canopy & no mast/food production. Opened up on the other hand, BOOM- it’s gonna explode!!!! Only 2 cents & I think as is - ur on course for greatness…. If you keeping long term- could plant or direct seed some shrubs or trees in there too so the long term composition is changed some over time. Not a huge deal but I might do even a days worth of work just to have a tiny bit of diversity. Could do a lot more but maybe trying a little bit of diversity could be fun & beneficial.

Looks great!!! I can’t wait to sneak in there this November & see the giants chasing!!! :)

I'm told it's used for furniture, and it really soaks in stain well. Logger tells me so well that can basically look like Cherry. I'm am not sure of all the uses.

I was give the prices of
.35/BF Standing Grade A Saw logs
.20/BF Standing Grade B Saw Logs

Then of course if you want to cut it, Trim it, Skid it, Size it. Then it's worth .50/BF on the landing. I don't have the machinery or the skidder. To make that all happen. They did the work in 4ish days that it would have taken me a long time to accomplish on my own.

And Skip you would be invited to come and hunt late in the season as the colder and colder the weather gets the better my farm gets, always been that way.(Ya never know what might show up) However I'm not sure the big ag country we have around here produces the kind of mega bucks your used to in southern Iowa. :)
