It has been a long season this year for me! After last years 4 hunts and done this has seemed like a marathon season of sorts. I shot a real nice deer the 12th of Nov right smack dab in the should er blade. I shot him a little before 2 in the afternoon and decided to back out and not push him til morning. I had watched where he walked into and thought I might get lucky and find him laying there but had no such luck. I was very upset with myself and struggled to get myself back out hunting. I had never lost a deer til that day and pride myself on that!
I started back up hunting the next weekend and wasn't seeing much movement or any of the bucks I had on camera all summer. I hunted pretty hard both saturday and sunday. With the season winding down and the lack of movement I was getting even more frustrated! Monday I had to work so I was planning on hunting the following mornings. Tuesday morning I saw a bunch of does with fawns and a real nice 10 but could not get him to come any closer.
This morning I decided to hunt the stand that I had hit the buck on the 12th out of. I had been getting a few pics of a new heavy 8 for the last week and kind of hoped I would see this deer today. I got in the stand about 6:15 this morning and immediately could hear deer around me but could not see them. It began to get lighter and had 2 spikes and a basket rack 8 come in. I looked out into the field and saw some does beig harassed by a buck so thought I would hit the horns together and see if he would respond. I was just into hitting the horns together for the second time and I see a nice deer running at me. I get ready and a fork horn cuts in front of him and they both come right to my tree. the 8 was a deer I have passed on numerous ocassions on this far as he is nice now but next year I think he will be a tremendous deer. So I let those to walk off and had forgot about the buck in the field until I go to hang my bow up. As I get the bow on the hanger I hear a snort wheeze from the edge of the timber. First time I have ever heard that so it was neat, but I couldn't see the deer. A few seconds later another 8 comes from where the snort wheeze was let loose from and realize this to be another deer I have passed numerous times. He begins to walk off and I get sat back down and bow hung back up and no more than 5 minutes later I see another deer coming from a different direction! I quickly get up and get ready and realize it to be this heavy 8 that I had just started getting pictures of. This deer is doing the same thing the deer did on the 12th that I shot in the shoulder so the whole time I had that running threw my head. I got him stopped in the exact spot that I shot the other one in the shoulder at and let the arrow fly! It hit right where it was suppose to and he piled up 25 yards later!
This is not my best deer with a bow, but I feel more like it was a redmeption deer of sorts! I was totally ready to eat tag soup if need be but I enjoy running cameras and like shooting deer I have pictures of! This deer showed up two weeks ago and was a regular at the scrape almost every day. Thanks for reading!
