Well got my first double tonight, got it done early too.
Got into my stand late, and at about 3:40 pm i was pulling my bow up to the stand just as i get it in my hand i notice a movement out in front of me and notice a doe with a fawn in tow coming right at me about 40 yds out.
Didn't have time to get the quiver off the bow and hung up just had to grab an arrow and nock it and get ready.
She worked in to 20 yds and gave me a hard quartering too shot that I ended up passing on. She then started moving to my right and i figured she was free at that point as it was thick and i had no shooting lanes that direction.
After about 16 yds she did a 180 and came back to my shooting lane and stopped just before it broadside. Her head was behind a small tree so i got drawn back and she just hung up and didn't move, she just kept looking to my left like there was something there, after holding as long as I could i started looking for holes and realized there was a paper plate size hole in the brush over the vitals area.
Did notice one miniscule branch right through the center of the hole, after holding as long as I could waiting for her to step forward I took the shot. Hit right at the elbow and heard a smack as the arrow hit the elbow on the opposite side, she went about 70 yds and tipped over, smoked nothing but heart.
So with 3 hours of light left I decided then that any bucks 3.5 yrs or older or anything i could put my doe tag on i was going to try to harvest, as i'd never been able to get a double before.
An hour later this youngin came in and gave me a hard quartering away shot at 9 yds, entered just behind the last rib on the near side and hit the elbow on the off side, hitting liver, lung and heart. He dropped within sight.
