First Spring Season

Ghost

Life Member
Well, this was the first Spring turkey season that both of my kids were packing a tag and guns.

If I were to measure the success of all of our Spring outtings on killing a turkey.....well I would be very disappointed.

There were many very close calls but just couldn't close the deal for them.

After every hunt I would tell them that I was sorry I couldn't put a bird in front of them.

They both said "That's OK Dad, we really had a lot of fun!"

That made me feel a little better I guess.

It's all about the adventure and thrill to a kid, sure it would be nice to kill one but you're #1 in their eyes for sharing the experience with them! Good job and good luck next time out.

I may have to post the video of gabe sleeping in the DB blind....I'll see what I can get done in the next day or two

I had to wake up my son laying on my bowcase in the blind on Sat. when I heard one drumming. He never gave him a good shot but he sure put on a show until a hen led him away. He went last year had a couple of chances at jakes but was going to shoot a longbeard.

Great job on getting them out there. I know where you are coming from on the un-usual first season. I tried the first 2 days and had the worst 1st season hunting experience ever. 3" of rain in 2 days and unseasonably warm temps had things a little off course also. Is it just me or does it seem like there are getting to be alot more hens for these toms to gather up?

That is awesome Ghost! I'm going to try and take my oldest out this fall in the blind with me to observe. Thank god for portable DVD's and Leapsters, otherwise I dont think she will make it.

Awesome Photos!

Just going by their smiles it appears they were having a good time, congrats on a successful hunt

Ghost,

Enjoying being out is what it's all about and by their smiles, they obviously did enjoy it. Or maybe it's the hats?

Their birds will come.

Ya, I know. They had a super great time every time we went out as did I. Nothing compares to spending time with your kids outdoors.

It was not my intention to have this post sound so negative.

I just went into the season with such high hopes of putting a bird in front of them. It's all we talked about for a month prior to season. I guess it was more about being disappointed in myself rather than being disappointed about the hunts we shared together.

At ages 9 and 11 it surely won't be our last time afield together!
