Hello I'm a first time Hunter last yr with Muzzle and this yr with Bow. I've seen and learned a lot this yr already. Already I've seen 6 Bucks in the 140-160 class and at least one around 190 or higher but was to far out to tell. Anyway to the story.
Normally I would hunt the Public Ground by my house that I have seen all these bucks at but today the wife and kids were going to Grandma's house to help with a garage sale. I was planning on saving my private grounds for shotgun season in which my parents and the neighbor granted permission to hunt this yr but since i was gonna be up there might as well test out the stand. Got out in the tree at about 1pm and the wind was perfect for this stand. Got settle in and waited. About 2 pm I caught site of two small does about 70 yrds out on the wrong side of the fence. At the same time caught site of 9 Turkeys also the wrong side of the fence. Just my luck. I've been in and out of the woods since opening day and always just missing chances or just plain missing my shots. ( I am a rookie) So once the does disappeared again i waited. Finally I thought to myself i know it's windy but why not rattle. So at 215 I did just that. At 220 I had a buck coming strait at me from 150 yrds out. Again wrong side of the fence. He walked a line strait to me, stopped at the fence and proceeded to walk the fence line. Aghh. Finally just before he disappeared behind thick brush he smelled something. He jumped the fence. HAHA he's already within 20 yrds now. Pulled back on the bow and waited for the moment. He walked about 20 yrds turned broadside and a little front quartered and i let him have it. WOW. MY first bow hit. And it went clean through him. Looked a bit high and a bit back. He ran 50 yrds and stood there. Then he layed down. I knew i had a good line on him and that I had at least hit one lung and possibly the artery in the back due to the high nature of the shot. I phone my friend who introduced me to hunting and hunts with me more often than not. Informed him of sit and he advised to let him lie for awhile. I sat in the stand and 30 min later watched the buck walk another 10 yrds then down again. Climbed down found the begining of the trail and marked it with a arrow and proceeded to back out. My friend would be here in a hr to help track. We came back in a hr and picked up the trail. Found my arrow in one piece. We had plenty of blood to follow. We jumped him at the 50 yrd mark and watched him run another 50 yrds and thats all it took. He piled up done for. We found that the arrow did hit the left lung, the major artery in the back, top of the heart, liver, and nicked the stomach. His antlers are no where near what i've been seeing all yr but he's my trophy 4x4 cause he's my first ever deer/buck with a bow. Luckly he's huge bodied so lots of meat coming home for dinner soon. Will try loading some photes see how this goes. Also this is not the bow in the pix i used. Like a rookie i left mine up at the car. So i used my friends.
