We'll see how they turn out, but this is my first attempt at trying to dry one of these out. With a little help from some veteran dryers, and a couple reads from Muddy's drying post, I decided to give er' a whirl. Wasn't nearly as difficult as I though it would be, and to be honest it only took me about an hour. Hopefully the end product turns out ok. I like the idea of displaying the beards and hooks, but since they are bow birds I don't want to shove them in spent shotgun shells. Anyone have any ideas to represent taking them with a bow??

I didn't like using shotgun shells for the beards either, but the old worn brass makes them look really nice. I just make a mark with a sharpie marker to know that they're archery.

Nice job on the fans.

Two of the three were, the main beard was full size. BTW.....I prefer "less than grand" as opposed to "spindly". /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

They are at Stuffy's. I didn't get 'em down there till March of this year. I told him since it took me damn near a year to get 'em down there not to hurry to get them back. Plus his cousin "Ogy" is makin a plaque and a holder for that shed you found so the fan, beards and shed will be on the same plaque. I'm thinkin it will look sweet. I'm kinda afraid the fan was a little beaten up from bein in the freezer for so long and getting "rumaged around" to get to the venison in the bottom of the freezer. We will see.

could you fit the 2 "less than grand" ones into an arrow shaft? take an old arrow, cut it into a couple little pieces, stick the beard in one end and a nock on the other? might look a little better if you fletched some small vanes on them, like some mini blazers?

Do something like this but instead of using the brass, you could cut a arrowhead out of wood and glue the beard behind the head.

I take a 14 inch piece of brown leather strapping "shoe lace size", and slide it through the hollow leg bone. Pull the ends together and slide three different colored wooden beads "found at Wal-Mart craft section" and then tie the ends together. If you are using a wooden plaque you can drill a 1/4 inch hole in the bottom on both sides of the beard and hot glue the ends of the straps in the holes. I'll try to post a pic, should only take me a couple weeks. /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif Looks like a good start on those fans! /forum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cool.gif

Depending on the style plaque you use. On my rack mounts I use a little brass bow hunter figure. I found them at Gander Mountain. I also have brass name plates engraved with the county and year inscribed on them. I also put "Archery" on one of the first ones I did before I found the bow hunter pin. Not as fancy of a way but visitors still see method of harvest.
