DNR Investigating Fish Kill in Chickasaw County
FREDERICKSBURG, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fish kill in the East Fork of the Wapsipinicon River that has impacted at least one mile of the stream.
Environmental officials with the DNR are on hand collecting water samples and while they have not yet identified a responsible party, they have ruled out manure as a possible cause. The water samples will be submitted to the University of Iowa Hygienic Laboratory for analysis with results expected by the end of August.
Staff from the DNR’s Decorah Fish Hatchery were counting dead fish Thursday afternoon. More information will be available on Friday.
