Anybody got a recomendation on a good flash light, prefferably with a blue, green or red lense cover that turns on easly, light and affordable, Not to big, and not to small, Lights up the woods like a full moon....You know the perfect hunting flash light.

Streamlight Stinger series Corey. The initial cost is a little steep, but its rechargeable and its like a portable sun in the woods.

I'd have to agree with Fred, those lights are awesome. Used to use them when I was a park ranger in training, brighter than hell. Personally I use streamlight pen lights, one in green for walking close to stand and one in white for more visability away from the stand.

i use a 3 led red head strape light . works great going to the stand bright enough to see everything and yet dont spook as much game as walkingin with a bright one with lots of noise aslong as ur quiet it dose madder what color it is

I use a Petzel Tikka plus headlamp with a red filter to get to and into the stand. You cant beat an LED headlamp for hands free use. For tracking or whatever else I use a Surefire E2E. Its about the size of a 3&1/2" shotgun shell and very light. Extremely bright and the batteries are tiny so you can carry spares easily. The Stingers are also very good and I have one of those too, but it is twice the size and weight of the Surefire for the same amount of light.

Speaking of red filters, Sunday night after I shot my doe another doe and fawn came in right at dark. They were getting hinky sniffing the bloody arrow and I wanted to get rid of them before I got down. I nailed them both right in the eyes at 10 yards with that surefire to try to run them off. They didnt even blink! It was if they totally could not see it. I may ditch the red filter on my headlamp after that.

As far as compact hand held lights go, I haven't seen anything beat a surefire. Seems like a lot of law enforcement agencies use either surefire or streamlight. Once you have one shined in your face you realize why.

Does surefire make a rechargeable battery? My brother has one but seems like he said a new battery was $50.

damb looks to me like $50 wont cut it. Probably nice lights but I would have to have alot of good reasons to spend that much $$$ on a light.

Actually Surefire makes one, I believe its called the G2 Nitrolon (or something similar)that sells for $35 in Cabelas. The guts are basicly the same as the E2E series, but the housing is some type of plastic. Still would have the same bright, flawless beam that the surefires are famous for. Batteries are $20 for a dozen, but that would last you a while.

Golly, maybe I'm just cheap, but you can get a pretty good LED light in my opinion for $15 at Wal-Mart. I bought one for this year and I've been more than pleased with it. Both the headlamps and the handhelds are very compact. Can't think of the brand name right now, but every Wal-Mart's got 'em.

Holy mother. I had no idea that Cabelas had $300 flashlights. Wow. I've got a Petzel headlamp that works pretty nicely. I need to figure out how to get a red lense in it though, as I think I'm scaring too many deer with the white light.

cybball, get one of those little keychain lights, with a single colored LED (red or green) cheap, and just enough light to use sneaking inot your stand

[/ QUOTE ] Eveready head lamp with both blue and red light. $12.99 best light I have ever used, hands free and light right where you're lookin. Don't spend the money unless you are going into the bush and your life is hanging in the balance.

I like a bright light. I use a petzel tikka head lamp for hanging stands in the dark but thats about it. do you think a deer would spot a beam of light pointed at the ground before they saw a 200 pound person fumbling through the timber in the dark? If you think they would you are kidding yourself, I have held my 3D Mag lite on deer as they passed by my stand in the darkness and they never react. try it sometime, you will be suprised if you don't make any noise

Teeroy they wear out my thumb on the way to the stand. Especially when its cold out. I have a green Streamlight stylus. Very compact and it twists on so you don't wear out your hand holding the key chain light on.

I agree the Surefire G2 for 35 bucks is mor than enough light for the cost. I found the replacement bulbs at $17.00 to be a kick in the teeth but they are nice flashlights.
