Some of you have walls that are being completed - mine is just starting.
Just wanted to share my mount I just got back...
Long story short is that I wasn't going to mount this deer initially - mainly due to our son being due in January and couldn't justify $500.00 when I knew there were hospital bills that would mount up. Plus my wife wasn't going to be too thrilled about it. So, I knew I wanted a European - LoessHillsArcher and Iowahunter took care of that for me. It was everything I hoped it would be - well, as good as it could look attached to a TV mount!
So, a friend comes along after the New Year and has a gift certificate to use at Marlin Hoch's Taxidermy...I buy the certificate off of him at a great price and go searching for a cape - of course with the wifey's permission.
Far be it from me to think ahead when I took him to the locker that I should save the cape...I mean, it probably wasn't a good one anyway since it was from October 5th. Well, needles to say, that was a hard lesson learned.
Thanks to Chris Hoskins, I got an A+ early season cape at a great price and took it down to Marlin's with CamoMan - what a cool looking shop he has down there in Melcher-Dallas.
Three weeks later, this is the finished product and I couldn't be happier - thanks to Marlin and his son(s) - I believe it's Jason.
They snapped a quick pic by the corn (I'll be taking another outside photo...I need to 'skyline' the deer so you can see all the detail, but I'll get to that later).
Here is what it looks like in my new 'man-room' in our new house (I've closed off part of the storage to put my 'man-stuff').
And here is a pic of my first turkey I've ever shot - with the bow. Props to my guide Nanny and to my buddy Caleb for putting this on the board. And of course Muddy for showing me how to cut the fan out properly and prepare it.
And to top things off, Marlin had a couple other cool animals in his shop. This longhorn measured right at 100" - about 8" off the current record - HUGE! Picture does no justice.
And part of the World Slam, these turkeys are not found in the US...I think he said somewhere down in South America or somewhere - heck I don't know, but they're pretty cool.
Thanks for the long read and thanks for allowing me to share...
