Food plot thoughts?

I have a larger field that serves as a good destination source on my 90 acres. Have roughly 5 acres of food in it. I have the ability to plant an additional 2-3 acre plot on the opposite end of the farm, it would be ideal for west winds with solid access.

My question is are you guys sticking to one large destination source or is it okay to have a second larger food source? My thoughts are the opposite end of the farm source will pull bucks from different areas and I could get some overlapping as well? This seems like a no brainer to me but I want to make sure this is a good approach?

Known bedding is on neighbors and I’d do limited tsi between the two large plots.

Thoughts on this barbell like food setup?

Treat the middle ground/bedding as sanctuary.

We have one large plot in the middle. Then one large on the side that allows the best access for w and nw winds. I think as long as you have sufficient cover more food options is better. Only time I would say no is if its an area you can't access well and if that food would hold deer from coming out to spots you can access

If access is good like you said and you pick up another wind to hunt then Id go for it. I agree on more options and that it supports more deer and lowers stress, but it also makes it a little complicated on the hunting.

IMO - 2 food plots of that size, on opposite ends is fine for 90 acres.

Generally speaking, I do prefer fewer plots as they do concentrate the deer, and make hunting easier. If a guy has 4-5 plots on the same acreage, that would not be my preference. Another good strategy is to add a small kill plot adjacent to the larger destination field, where better bucks would enter and stage before dark.

Your general approach to cover in the center, and plots on edges with good access is always a good strategy.

Many schools of thought here. Lots of variables. Property size, shape, predominant winds in relation to cover, approach/access, what’s going on across the fence from you, etc etc. I know incredibly successful hunters who believe in one large destination plot and hunt the pinches & travel corridors based on wind. I’ve had a decent amount of success over the years and have tended to have a larger late season “destination” type plot, whether I had my tenant farmer leave grain standing, or I planted 4 or 5 acres myself. But, I also have a few plots that are designed and situated to be earlier season pre-rut “kill plot” type setups. In my experience these can be great seeking-phase spots to catch a buck poking around looking for that 1st doe. These are killer spots on that 1st October cold front.
