This is my second year with food plots on my property.... I have used Whitetail Institute clover and the NWTF Strut and Rut And have had excellent success with these.
I am in about the middle of the state...This year with the little snow we had here it stayed green into Jan
There arejust couple key things....
1) Do the soil sample... No sense in investing money into the seed if you don't have the nutriants in the soil.
2) Once the clover gets to 6-8" range mow it, and if at all posible get the clipping off.
I think that is one of the keys to growing clover, the seed company's don't stress it enough.
And I think I know why....There is some investment with a mower, or hiring a farmer to mow it.
You would not beleive the stand I have now... I bought a swisher rought cut. That I can pull with my 4-wheeler. It works great...
I had the deer in there this year, they help allot. I think if I had had this in the 1999-2000 season. No telling what would have happened.
I also have some corn and sorghum out there. I have thought very serious about using some winter wheat..
Hope that helps some.
