For deer hunting...where would you want to live?

Hello all,
Congrats to everyone for their success this fall! I have a rather unique question for those who would like to respond. I will be moving from Alaska this coming June back to the midwest. As of right now my wife and I haven't made any definite plans on where we want to move to..although we are narrowed down to Iowa, Minnesota, or Wisconsin. (boy, what a small area huh?) Of course my main concern on moving is what area is going to produce the best deer hunting for us, followed by where I can find a job. You know..priorities. Luckily my wife is just as into hunting as I am, so this is a concern to her as well.
I know most of you love where you live and there is great deer hunting all over the state, but if you could move to areas you've heard of for consistently producing big deer and lots of them, where would that be? Stay in Iowa or move to a different state? How about areas with accessibility as far as public ground? Is there a better part of the state than others in your opinion?
The reason I said this was kind of a unique question is because I'm sure you're just not going to divulge your great deer hunting areas to another die hard, but I just thought I'd pry your brains to see what kind of ideas I'd get that I haven't already thought about. Thanks! By the way...this forum is awesome.

The only other place I would like to live other than here is very northern wisconsin. Absolutely beautiful up there and it's good hunting. Good Luck with your decision.

Sask, Canada.....I really don't want to leave the USA but them bucks up there can grow to giant proportions. As far as your 3 choices....I don't think you could go wrong with any of them as all three states grow great whitetails

Shredder, I'd be glad to have a guy like you as my neighbour

....... seriously!!!! Whitetails led me to where I reside, well that and employment but I wouldn't move anywhere for anything in the world. Sure, like everywhere we have our problems, mostly economic but I love the vast wilderness and extreme amounts of wildlife.....unbeatable fishing and last but not least, 300 pound whitetail bucks with antlers to match.

I want to live in Kaare's neighborhood too, who wouldn't?

Shoot to Kill-

Live in NE Iowa if at all possible for the simple fact that the NR tags are getting so tough to come by. MN tags can be bought over the counter and are around $130. There is good hunting until the pumpkin slingers take the woods the first weekend in November and the area along the Mississippi River has great public land hunting. WI is over the counter NR liscenses as well and you can cross the river at Prarie du Chien and be into some great SW Wi hunting within an hour or so of just about anywhere from this area. And if that isn't enough you can get IL tags almost guarenteed over the internet on the day thier offered. 2 hours and you are into prime deer country when you cross the river at the Quad cities.

I have often dreamed of this area to livein, however my family is in e central WI and it would be tough to leave with 3 small kids.

Good luck!!!!

Shedhead...that is the exact input I was looking for. I'd always thought of the NE part of the state, but had never thought of the opportunities for MN, WI, and IL within a short driving distance. That would be great to hunt all four states in one season!
Thanks for the reply, this is definetely something to consider...now I just have to find a job there!!!
Anybody looking to hire in that part of the state????

Re: For deer hunting...where would you want to liv

I don't know if you are into factory work or not but there is one in Decorah, IA and one in Cresco, IA that hire anyone with a pulse...

Re: For deer hunting...where would you want to liv

No...not really into factory work. Just out of curiosity..what kind of factories are they? I'm really looking for a medical equipment sales position, so I have to accept the fact that I will probably have to be at least somewhat near a good sized city to be based out of. That's just an idea..I just want my wife to make tons of money so I can hunt all year long!!!

Re: For deer hunting...where would you want to liv

If you need a bigger city (which there are none in NE Iowa) I would look at LaCrosse, Madison, WI. or Rochester, Austin, Winona, MN. or Rock Island, Ill.

Re: For deer hunting...where would you want to liv

Medical supply sales... There may be a market around Rochester MN. Lots of medicine practiced in Iowa City too. Quad Cities Iowa/Illinois may fit the ticket.
