Fox River Outfitters Hunting Guide Fraud

I want to get the word out abaout a whitetail hunting guide who is a crook and con artist operating in the state of Iowa. I booked a hunt with Howard Schreiber of AAA Fox River Outfitters to hunt the fall of 2001. I sent Howard the full balance of the hunt along with a signed contract that insured a full refund should I not draw a tag. Well, I did not draw a tag and I did not receive a refund. Howard lied MANY times saying that the check was in the mail. Now he will not even return my calls. I am trying to get the word out to as many people as I can about this con artist. I welcome any debate from Howard concerning this issue. This was a dream hunt I saved a very long time for only to have it all stolen by a crook. It is time for the State of Iowa to regulate the guides so that dishonest outfits like this can be held accountable for their actions.

Sounds like you got ripped off. If you have a contract, you might want to contact the local police or DA to press charges for theft or fraud.

If you ever get a tag, I would be willing to point you in the right direction to gain access. I would help you out since you are 3,000 miles away. I'm not a guide, just a fellow hunter willing to help.

By the way, you are so fortunate to live in the state of the Last Frontier. I have hunted AK many times and dream of AK everyday. There is no better feeling than arriving at the airport, stepping outside, and breathing the cool Alaskan air.

After my hunts, I must stop at Chilkoots for a beer and Humpy's for a halibut sandwich then drive down the highway and look for sheep.

I am looking for a river to float for 2003.
I wouldn't mind swaping some deer for moose leads.

I emailed the gentleman that runs the outfitter, and asked him, and all he told me was, "your loss" i was like what the h... so I dunno

Just curious....how much did he get to book the hunt?. If the amount is over a certain amount, it could mean felony charges.

Koonass, as a law enforcement officer in the State of Iowa I would suggest that you give the County Attorney a call in Van Buren County to see if he can start the process of filing theft charges against the outfitter. Then request the number to the Attorney generals office and ask for someone who deals with fraud! You need to pursue this if you have a valid contract and are due your money back! If you decide to pursue this I will help you with numbers and even make some phone calls myself to get any information you may need. If this is the way this particular outfitter operates he must be exsposed to the system and pay the piper. I do no our Attorney generals office does not tolerate fraud in this State if they know about it. Hope this helps.

I remember when these guys moved to this area from NM several years ago. I don't have much good to say about them. Used the locals to find the good hunting areas then leased them out from under their noses. Some friends, eh?
