full body or shoulder mount

Here the deal,
My grandfather found two huge deer skulls many years ago that were locked together. Everytime I would stay with him we would sit back and admire the two skulls.
My grandfather passed away 3yrs ago and the last time I saw him he gave me the horns. We spent hrs trying to find the article he had saved with the picture of him holding the horns in the local newspaper. But at the time never found it. My grandmother called a few months back and informed me that she had found the article.
My big decision is I know I want them mounted some way but do not know if I should shoulder mount them on a pedestal, or go full body. These racks obviously are very special to me and have never been seperated.
I am far from a rich guy, but money isn't really an object with these.
I do not have the space right now for full body mounts, but if I decide to put them on a pedestal I would like to do it soon.

Looking for your opinions. Thanks

Travis,
Cool story, I guess if it were me I would go with the shoulder mounts on a pedestal. Great memories with a cool story is tough to beat. Send them to a quality taxidermist and you will not be sorry.

I'm with Limb here, I'd go the pedastal route. really cool family heirloom, hope your grandchildren one day enjoy them as much as you obviously do.

Iwould go with pedestal mounts. Most people simply don't have the room to display two full body mounts, not to mention the fact it will be expensive. As a taxidermist, I can tell you that the pedestal mounts won't be cheap either. If you are going to mount them locked together, it will take lots of form altering. All the extra work involved in a project like this will effect the pricetag. Apparently the antlers mean alot to you, and I would find the best taxidermist you can afford. You will be admiring them for the rest of your life and wouldn't trust them to just anyone. Show us a pic when you get the mounts completed!

you can get a shoulder mount on a pedestal, and have it rotate, so you would get to see it from all sides.

I have always though it would be cool to have a pair of locked bucks shoulder-mounted so they will fit in the corner of a room, one on each wall. That might be one thing you could consider too.

Mounting them so they would fit into a corner is a great idea. Do you have any pics of some you have seen before?

Forgot to mention that these were from Kansas. Hope I don't piss anyone off here, but all the deer from Kansas I have killed or helped clean, had kind of ratty capes. Although it would be more geographically correct to use hides from the Kansas area, I think I am going to search around for some out of that area. Thanks for the replies. I will try to post pics of these.

I don't have any pics, matter of fact I don't think I have ever even seen anything like it... just hought it would look cool.

Capes from Kansas deer are quite different from Iowa deer (and Minnesota Deer).

I didn't realize how much different they looked until I shot a buck on the last day of my hunt in Kansas a few years ago and decided to bring it home whole. When I got home, I took it to the local locker and they all gathered around and were asking "WHere the heck did you get this thing!" I had some fun with it for a while before I told them. Not only was it the biggest rack they had seen all year but the body was more athletic looking, kinda skinny compared to these blocky northwoods bucks. ANd the fur color wa a lot lighter, and kinda grayish. I didn't really think it would be that much different until I actually put the Kansas deer alongside the ones from here and it was very obvious the deer was not from around here.

Ditto

i dont think full body's are as impressive.....
id go with shoulder/pedistal mounts if it were me

I would go with shoulder mounts too, those are some nice deer.

yea those are pretty sweet and it is cool that your gpa gave them to you, i would also go with the shoulder mounts, just seems more feasible.

i think the full body mounts would cost way more than what you would get out of them. the shoulder will look really cool and i think you would be really happy with those too. the fulls would take an entire room to display them properly.

Thanks for the inputs. Actually, I have a good friend of mine that is a very good taxidermist. He has walked me through getting several critters tanned/ect.. Thinking of having him walk me through doing these. I think that would ultimately mean the most to me in the long run. Either way, I have decided to go with shoulder mounts. I just need to find a pose. Thanks again guys for your opinions.
