I got 3 varieties of Chestnuts: Chinese, 15/16th's (almost all american chestnut except the 1/16th which makes them blight resistant). Letemgrow has American Chestnuts, pretty cool! One other type. I will later get some Dunstans but grow from seed. Growing outta root makers and later transplanting, really won't take that long to bare some mast. Fun for now, cheap too. Will probably take some and grow pot sizes to get them a few years old in my fenced in backyard. Keep em watered!!! Will be a very desirable nut in the years ahead. I am looking forward to getting some Dunstan's but not sure I've heard the deer care about the difference really. Cheap & fun and just takes a little time & attention.

I've got a few young chestnuts planted also. They are so much a part of American history that it's kind of our "duty" to plant some. My personal tree victory came when my Northern Pecans finally took off. Planting young trees is so rewarding. Mice chew some off, deer knock down tubes and cages and browse them, and some just die for no apparent reason. But, when you finally look up to the tops of a 10 footer that is only there because you took the time to make it happen, it's worth it.:way:

Looking good Skip. I've got a couple flats of the American Chestnuts planted as well and they are coming along very nicely. A lot of my chestnuts are growing several stems/trunks, which I trimmed down to one. Did yours do that too?

I didn't have any growing several stems but I'll go look tonight.

I have heard they will produce in 5-6 years. Maybe that's off though? I've planted almost every type of tree in the past except chestnut so not 100% sure? If that is correct, that's extremely fast for trees producing vs about anything else out there. Obviously if you compare to a white oak which could take 20-30 years, not too shabby.

Skip, Phil, & anyone else that has any chestnut experience: Please keep this thread updated on how your chestnuts are progressing. I'm deciding right now what species/hybrids to plant on my place and any info you guys want to pass along is greatly appreciated. Thanks
