gaining access

For those of you that hunt private land, is the land owned by somebody that you have a connection to or was the landowner/operator a stranger when you first gained access. What "tricks" do you use to gain access to private land?

After I bought my place in the country most of the landowners were strangers, i simply introduced myself, being a new neighbour helps out and most have them have been very gracious. I scratch some backs a bit, for example I sell some big sheds for one landowner, he gets the $$ and I help others out with simple tasks such as cutting wood for winter, hauling lumber etc..... Being a good neighbour has went a long ways in gaining hunting access. Just be yourself, friendly and genuine.

Giving a gallon bag of venison jerky to the landowners has almost always given me exclusive rights. sssshhh

Ive got permission from both people who I know and strangers.Aint really got any tricks though, sometimes its as easy as just driving in the yard and asking them if you can hunt.Sometimes it takes a long time to get in somewhere.

With strangers a lotta times Ill ask around first and get an idea if someone else hunts it, the landowners views on hunting, weather they will even consider letting someone else in.I found out it dont matter where the property is, someone else has already asked and probably even hunted it.And they can usually give you a pretty good idea if its accessible.

I also found out the one that farms it and the one that owns it arent always the same person.Sometimes the farmers will say no but you can still ask the landowner.Or theyll have you track down the landowner to ask him.I guesse once I find a property I like I just keep asking questions till I get a yes or no outta someone.
