I was watching a episode of Midwest Whitetails when a add for the game tender came on. On the comercial they showed it being used on a deer. But only birds on the you tube videos that I could find.

I am not butcher so I dont know if something like this is used a lot. I have been told that electricty is used in pork meat packing plants to kill hogs.

Anyone know any thing about something like this?

Does that mean someone that had a defib used on them is real tender?

I worked on the kill floor at Oscar Mayer...they shock the hog to immobilize them and cut their throat while their heart is still pumping as to help them bleed out. Cheaper than a rage.:D

I saw the same thing and it intrigued me. I did my degree in Animal Science and when I worked in the meat lab we would use electrical stimulation on beef carcasses to improve tenderness. It didn't take much to get a response. So in theory should work. The beef carcasses would kick like that buck in the commmercial. I would guess the meat would be more tender than without electrical stimulation.

Just gotta say...that I love your handle Hogjock! :D :D

Saw that on the MW show too... Not sure if it was good marketing to show the deer shaking like that.....

I DVR'd yesterday's MW Whitetail so I could look a little closer at the commercial. Looks like you put one probe in the neck area and one in the rear area, which is similar to how we did it at the meat lab. Ours plugged into the wall, this one is battery operated? I guess the kicking/shaking doesn't bother me. Would be interesting to try, it made a huge difference in range fed cattle.
