Gettin a stand in late advice

SCOFFIN

Miles Coffin
Ok, I've been a major bum this early season and have no stands out yet. Darn house project is taking up all my free time. Anyway, do I dare go hang one this weekend being so close to opening weekend, or just pop one up the day I go hunting?

I know I've heard of guys just going out and putting one up and drop a hog that same day. The area's I hunt have pretty standard trails, so I already know the tree and there will be open shooting lanes already. Just don't want to spook any deer if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for your advice..

I think you'll be alright. im going out this weekend to put up a double bull and a hang on on a killer spot i just found while i was walking our farm the other day. i might even end up hunting the set im hanging in two weeks, i honeslty don't think the deer mind that much. For me, its not so much a big deal because we're doing a little logging, taking out some stormed damaged trees and what not so the deer are already used to some human activity in the woods. you'll be fine

Hang 'em.

I've found that it just depends on how much you trim out of the area or how visible the stand is. I've got spots in other states that I use over and over that I don't have to trim, but I hang the stands when I get there and hunt a week. Deer never bust me on those. I have been busted in new spots that have needed major lane trimming jobs though. Deer seem to notice anything different in their area. You just never know if it will bother them or not.

I just hung a stand yesterday and will probably hunt it within the first week of season.

I agree, hang em, and keep your intrusion down to a minimum and you will be fine...
