Giant 8 points

Does anyone know what the top 5 4x4 typical whitetails score? I'm pretty sure there are only a few that go over 180.
I was thinking there was a lady from Iowa quite a few years ago that shot one over 180 with a shotgun. There was an artical about it in NAW I think. Anyone know about this or have more info or pics? Thanks. Jay

I'm pretty sure the top 4x4 nets around 182 and that is comes from Michigan. Saw it in NAW and Saskatchewan's own Big Buck Magazine, not sure about the rest.

I have a picture of the world record eight point, I will put it on here where I go back to work. My dial up is too slow to upload pics

I belive it's 180" something.

Elisha Hugen, I beleive is the name, Her 8 pt, shot in Iowa, grossed 188 2/8, netted 182 3/8. largest 8 shot by a woman, and I havent seen any others that net that high either...

I did a little research on the biggest 4x4 awhile back, and all I remember is 184 and some change for net. Said it was the world record, I believe it still holds the title. He has a full body mount of it

Yeah you are correct Fluge. Her name is Elisha Hugen, and she shot the buck somewhere around the Marion/Monroe county area during shotgun season. The story I have been told is that she shot the buck while walking along a field, and she saw the buck lying next to a log trying to be very still. She shot the monster eight, and while waiting for her husband another 130-140 inch buck came running by and she shot that one also, so it was a great day hunting for her. I'm not sure what it nets, but I think it's around 184 or 185. I have been told it is the World Record 8-pointer and it's in the Legendary Whitetails book. Elisha is also a die-hard bowhunter with her husband and son.

Liv and Shredder, you are right about the big 8 pointer from Kansas. It was shot several years back by a farmer in North East Kansas. He has a full body mount of it laying down with it's head up....

Mark...

The current World Record 8 is the Elisha Buck. It netted 184 and some change, I actually talked to the "Lucky Buck 8" isn't the world record. They pretty much ignored me. I don't believe it is a wild buck either. How many wild bucks out the does the hunter have every shed from the deer in absolute perfect shape??? Especially in Michigan!

Does anyone have any info on the 8 point hit by the car in Des Moines this year? I seen this buck at the taxidermist, and it is one of the biggest bucks i have ever seen. He told me it was the 12th biggest 8 point in the world, and scored 203in gross! This buck was bigger then some of the biggest Muleys i have seen!

I'm nor sure why but I was thinking that Michigan buc was the world record. It has been in a few magazines I've read. I'm not trying to defend anybody or anything but the comment about the sheds is a little unjust. Sure I only have 4 sheds from the buck i shot this year but a nighbour down the road has 3 of them, that leaves only 1 in those years missing and this is not a fenced area, this is the big woods of Saskatchewan, virtually 1000's and 1000's of uncut timber butting up to a few hundred acres of alfalfa. I believe it is possible, you just have to get lucky.

I found this in a Taxidermy Forum....

185.1 is the gross score for one of the 8 point whitetail antlers that hold the world record. Net score on this Michigan buck is 180.3 B&C typical.
I made the molds for two sets of sheds from this buck plus the world record set he had on his head when he was shot in 2001.
If anyone saw the pictures in North American Whitetail (July 2002) of the three sets of antlers on the ground in front of the hunter, they are replicas, not the real antlers as the caption reads.

Here's the one you're looking for, Jay, the Elisha Hugen Buck from Iowa:
hugenBuck.jpg

That photo image was taken by Bill Winke, so I want to make sure he is credited for it.

Here's the stats on the Hugen Buck:

Taken in 1996

Typcial eight pointer

Inside spread: 23 4/8"

Grosses: 188 2/8"

Right side G2: 14 7/8"

Left side G2: 15 0/8"

Nets: 182 3/8"

This deer, photos, and the story of the hunt can be found on pages 102-105 of "Legendary Whitetails II" by Larry Huffman.

I've seen a number of nice eight pointers, but hands down this one is THE finest.

That thing is truly awesome. There is just something cool about a straight 8 point that gets that big.
I have shot a couple 8's that go in the low to mid 140's gross, I cant imagine one that is 40" bigger!

I wish I'd had a picture of that buck with me. I don't think the luck buck people would have said a word after seeing that hog! I still have the Ottumwa Paper that had the big buck contest for 1996, and it was the winner. I actually met Elisha at the Iowa Deer Classic in 2000. It was pretty funny, my brother and I was starring at her buck and I said,"I'd shot that buck over any of these Hall Of Famers". From behind us, I hear somebody say, "Boy I want to kill one like that one". It was Elisha and she was talking about a different buck (it wasn't nearly as impressive as what she had killed, but scored more). We talked with her a little while and it only took about 2 minutes for me to know she was as serious about hunting as anyone I've ever talked with. It was pretty neat!!!!

Believe it or not, and I'm sure some won't, but there is a Minnesota buck, also shot by a woman(early 70's I believe), that nets 184 and change as a true 4x4. This deer has been offically scored, but for what ever reason, has not and will not be entered ANYWHERE according to the family. Several years ago, John Colllins was trying to find information on a 4x4 that he had purchased from a dealer. This deer grosses 201 and nets 186+ (I believe). However, he has never been able to confirm positivly where it was taken so it has not been entered in B&C.
