looking at getting a new bow. i was looking at a hoyt viper-tec or razor-tec what would ya'll buy?

I know this will get some people fired up. Shot a Hoyt for 7 years and tested out a Mathews for about 7 minutes and now I shoot a Mathews.

I have a similar experience as rattle them in except I shot a Hoyt for several years changed to Mathews for one year and now I shoot Hoyt again. It just feels good to me, and I am confident with it etc, etc.
Thier are a lot of good bows out there don't be afraid to buy something different just because it's not the most popular on the market. Buy what ever feels the best whether it's a Pearson, Oneida, PSE, High Country, Bear, Hoyt or Mathews etc..You are the one that will be carrying it and relying on it. I would suggest to shoot as many as possible. Good Luck and tell us what you end up with.

My suggestion, go to a pro shop or several for that matter and shoot as many bows as you can. I am a hoyt shooter and prefer those, some are mathews shooters and prefer those. Fact of the matter is, there are at least five other manufacturers of top quality bows out there and you need to find the one that suits you best, is the most comfy to shoot and allows you to shoot to your best potential. I beleive after you shoot all of them out there, hoyt will be at the top of your list........

Regardless of the brand name.......

Be confident in yourself and your equipment when you start to climb the tree.....

Shredder is pretty much right. Get the one you like, they will all kill a deer. Its just a preference thing. The deciding factor for me was the grip. If I had to pick between the Hoyts I would get the razor-tec.

i've shot just about every bow manufacturer at one time or another. i've also seen guys/gals outshoot the "big boys" with seemingly insignificant brands of bows. as long as you're going into the woods and are happy with your set up it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks. even the biggest names in archery put out high quality "mid range" bows for starting out on. you have ample time before deer season gets here to test drive as many bows as you want. my suggestion would be to shoot at least a dozen different bows before you make your decision. start with the least expensive ones and work your way up to the most expensive ones. learn what makes certain bows more expensive than others and if the price difference feels good when shooting it. make sure you also shoot as many brands of bows as possible so you can get a handle on what is out there. shoot long axle to axle bows, short axle to bows, double cam bows, single cam bows, try a release aid, but most importantly keep an open mind while shooting them all as it's your money that will eventually be changing hand and you have to be happy and excited about your decision. i know that every time i get my bow out i'm pumped to just be shooting it because i'm happy and CONFIDENT with this bow in my hands.

if it were me looking right now i'd shoot all the mathews and hoyts no matter what. the pse team primos bow is awesome also. look into renegade, reflex, AR, alpine, martin, & browning bows also to name a few. most bow companies put out a "higher end" bow and all of the higher end bows shoot so similar anymore it's crazy.

good luck with your decision, you will have your hands full!! also, if it's any consequence, i shoot a Hoyt RazorTEC.

Muddy I thought you went fishing today. Hey anytime you want to shoot that Hoyt come on up. I have a few targets in the backyard from 5-30 yards and even a treestand in the backyard. Just thought you might to want to go head to head for a few

. Mathews vs. Hoyt and maybe we could have some friendly Iowawhitetail.commers make wagers on the clash of the bow giants. Then we could report the results of the great American shootoff.

I see you are into fishing have you ever tried any bowfishing? I see you live in Iowa City I'm less than an hour north of there and would love some company doing a little bowfishing this spring and summer.
Didn't mean to get off subjesct just had to rub Mudman a little. Yes I agree with everyone else my first bow was a 45 lb. $80.00 Darton and I took my first 2 deer with that bow. It is all what is comfortable and makes you feel confident.

rattle - didn't make it fishing, i had a wine party last night and figured that i'd better enjoy it. maybe tomorrow i'll make it out, waiting to hear back from husker and moosehunter on how today is going. maybe i'll be running north later this afternoon. i love to bowfish, but at the moment my arrow is in a pond in south central iowa and i need to replace it yet.

Muddy needed to get his mind working more efficiently. The following quote is in regards to beer, but in muddys case i suppose it could also be used with wine.

It is known as the Buffalo Theory> coined by Cliff Clavin> explained to Norm>
"Well ya see Norm, its like this ....A heard of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it is the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowets brain cells. Excessive intake of alcohol, as we know, kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In the way, regular consumption of beer (wine in muddys case)eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. That's why you always feel smarter after a few beers"

It's like everyone hear has said, it just depends on what fits you. I shoot a mathews but just recently purchased a Hoyt cybertec. They both shoot great and I love shooting both of them. Just find what fits you.
