Well I got to finish my turkey hunting this weekend filling my 4th season tag on my second bird of the year. I've been lucky this year to be able to get out to the woods a few weekends this year and it payed off.
Funny thing about this bird is that it was supposed to be my little brothers. He bought a 4th season tag and we went out in the DB Saturday morning.... We got almost all the family out Saturday morning in two blinds. One was me and my brother and a ways away was my uncle, dad, and cousin. I didn't even bring a gun along; I really wanted to get my bro a turkey. Well the morning unfolded and this guy came strutting in with some hens and long story short the bird got at the wrong angle and we had to make a split second decision... we were getting re-situated in the blind so TJ could shoot and the birds were going through an opening and he told me to go ahead and shoot him before he got away so I took the shot. I was kind of upset afterwards because I really wanted to get the little bro a bird, but I guess that's how it goes; at least he got too see the show and kill. He'd never seen a bird in full strut up close before, and this tom was close (15 yards
, plenty for the 12 gauge haha).
Not a huge turkey but he was the king of the show that morning. We didn't weigh him but I figured he'd go 19-20 pounds. 10 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. Good luck to you all still out there huntin away.
