Got him again!

This is a buck that we became aware of last year around the 28th of October. We caught him on camera checking a scrape and from that point on he was a target buck. He was never seen by anyone in our hunting group and we were left wondering if he made it through the season. We have been passing smaller/younger deer and planting food plots for a few years now and we were really pleased to see that our work appeared to be paying off. Fast forward to this season. Wouldn't you know this guy managed to stay hidden all throught the summer and early fall again this year until Oct. 29th. Again, thanks to a vman, he appeared checking the same scrape we caught him at last year only this time one day later. Since the 29th we have two more pictures of him and he has been sighted by Briarwoodsbottoms for the first time last night in a field with 5 does. He is a very interesting buck to have two years of photos to analyze. I am no pro by any stretch but I feel that I do know some when it comes to judging age and antler size. This deer is challenging though because he is real thin and just doesn't have the body size/mass to equal his impressive rack. The common sense in me wants to say that last year he was a nice 3.5 year old and would have scored around 150, maybe a touch more and this year he is a 4.5 year old that should touch 160 and some change. But on the other hand, one part of me wants to think that there is a small chance that last year he was an awesome 2.5 year old and this year he is a good 3.5 year old. If I only had this years pic to judge by I would say 3.5 without hesitation but throwing last years pic in the equation I say he is just a scrawny, nice 4.5 year old that wont get a pass. Just wanted to do some thinking out loud and see what you guys thought. No doubt in my book he is a shooter so lets not get confused on what direction I am taking this! Alright, I thought I had his picture from last year but I cannot find it on IowaWhitetail so here is this years.

Alright, since Briarwood Bottoms took the short bus to school he asked me to help him out. Here is his picture from last year. I tell you what, its hard to say how old he is after looking at the pictures. Sure didnt do much over a year besides add a little, and i mean little mass!

He's not thin...He's lean and mean.

Love the look of him, check out that neck. He'll look good on the wall. ZING HIM!!!

Here is the pic of him last year. I have to agree with everything Droptine said. He is very nocturnal and the property he is on is difficult to get into stands with little disruption. Needless to say I have off the 8th, and 9th plus weekend to pursue this guy. Just hope with long all day sits I will catch him seeking or chasing. I apologize if the pic does not show up I am computer stupid.

The bottom pic is last years, the top pic is this year, notice the fork on the left g-2 that is not present in the bottom. I would say 3.5 in the bottom and 4.5 in the top, and only because I know there is a years difference. He is a crazy looking buck. I do not think I have seen one so long with as long a neck as he has got. He looks half giraffe. Chad I hope you are able to catch up with him because you deserve it with all the work you have put in on that farm! I am putting my official guess as a gross score of 171 3/8. Now go get him! By the way, this is the other photo from last year. Definately approaches the scrape from the same direction every time!

Alright Chad! I haven't been on here much lately but I am sure glad I checked in this morning after work. Now that the recent picture and sightings have given you hope once again on this guy, I will echo what Caleb said. Go get your buck........ you deserve him!
