40SW

Well I stopped at the taxidermist a couple days ago and picked him up. I took him on my birthday (12/16/2003) with my 40 caliber Smith and Wesson semi auto at 'bout 90 yards. My first with a pistol and I plan to enter him at the classic in the pistol division. What do you think my chances are? My best estimates are mid 140"

I hate to admit it but the tenth shot finished him off. I hit him on one of the first 2 and he jogged about 20 yards and stopped so I ran up to about 50 yards and missed about 3 times, then finally aimed and hit him right behind the front shoulder and dropped him in his tracks. I was really excited and ran up to him and he flinched blinked and the tenth shot put him out of his misery. 90 yards is an estimation by about 6 guys but I did step off a doe I shot a few days before and it was 128 yards......

Thats a really nice buck 40SW. You should do pretty well and there arent usually that many entries in the pistol catagory.
90 yards is a looooong poke with a 40. No offense to your gun as the 40 is a nice round, but after having shot a couple dozen car hit deer in the past few years with mine at work, I cant believe the DNR even allows it as a deer hunting cartridge. They sure dont seem to be in any hurry to die after taking a shot, or several, in the chest or head. And that is at a couple paces much less 90 yards. No wonder yours took a few rounds. The .44 mag would make a much better hunting round, albeit much heavier to carry in general.
Again, not trying to rag on your gun, I was pretty surprised at the .40's lack of effectiveness too.

I'd like to use my 10mm this year if I can get a mount made for my Docter red dot. Last time I looked they only fit Glocks 9mm, 40short and weak (haha) and 357sig. Anyway, that with Cor Bon 180gr soft point should do the job.

Nice buck by the way.
