Grains per inch

what do you look for in an arrow as far as the grains per inch. My carbon express cx300 is 8.1. It seems to do the job. (If I hit the right spot)

I'm from the old school & prefer a heavy arrow & the kinetic enrgy they produce. I shoot 12 gr. per inch CX Terminator Hunter's & have had great results.
