67-year-old cited for turkey hunting violations

(AP) —The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says a 67-year-old man from Pride is accused of taking two turkeys and failing to tag either.

Enforcement Division spokesman Adam Einck says agents in the Atchafalaya Basin near Jakes Bayou on opening day, March 24, heard shots and allegedly found Ted A. Lewis with two untagged turkeys.
Hunters may take two turkeys over the season, and one a day.

Possessing more than the limit carries up to 90 days in jail and a fine of $250 to $500. Failing to tag turkeys brings up to 60 days in jail and a fine of $100 to $350 and up to 60 days in jail. Lewis was also assessed a civil restitution penalty of $3,079—the value of the two turkeys.
