Great ending to a great season (pics added)!
Well my season is officially over. This was my first year bowhunting turkeys after years of chasing them with my shotgun. I was fortunate enough to take two real nice birds with my bow before 3rd season even started. I took my dad out during 3rd season and got him his second bird ever. Then this morning I took my fiance out for her first ever hunt of any kind. We'd been out and shot the shotgun a couple times earlier this month and this was the only weekend that she could get out and hunt. I went out and tried to roost some birds last night but didn't hear anything so I decided to setup the blind and decoys on the south side of a thick cedar timber hoping the wind wasn't going to blow us away. At about 5:30 we had a bird gobble fairly close to us straight to the north, about 15 minutes later we had another bird sound off to the east. After the bird to the north hit the ground we never heard another peep out of him. Not long after that I heard the bird to the east of us gobble and he was much closer. I told Chelsey to get ready as the bird was coming in. I saw him crest the hill just as he did he let out a gobble. He was with a jake, when they saw my king strut decoy they started heading to the north not really wanting anything to do with us so I told Chelsey to take him. She made a great shot dropped him in his tracks. Nice bird about 22lbs just over 1in spurs and beard was just shy of ten inches. I'm super proud of her and the first thing she said was she wants to do it again! I'll get some pictures up as soon as I get them downloaded from the camera.
