Great Season

Sorry I have taken so long to post this year's harvests.
I have been playing catchup after hunting as much as
I could and keeping customers and the wife happy.

First day of the season I had a bird walk about a mile to get to my
setup with me shooting the Magnus Bullhead about a inch below his
neck. It just bounced off and he walked away pretty ticked off at the jake for doing that. This was the first year using the bullheads and I was beginning to wonder about my choice.

Second day I had a few work me at 35 yards and opted to wait on the shot and wait until later. They worked the fields all morning but with no movement I am sure thet were leery on coming in. That is when I decided to give my DSD's some movement to them.

Second season a buddy invited me to hunt with him by his house. I was sick as a dog so figured I could get a quick hunt in and back home to be with the wife.

We had birds gobbling all over but right off the roost they went the other way. We waited it out for over an hour and then we had a couple hens come over to check out the DSD's and then from around the corner 3 toms were trailing. The toms walked right in and one immediately jumped on top of the jake beating the crap out of him. As soon as he jumped down I aimed between my rods and shot (cut right through my ties) he turned around like what hit me. He did not drop but was hit hard and the other two toms were doing the Texas Two step and my buddy said make them stop. The whole time my bird just stood there bleeding bad. We finally got one to stop at twenty yards and my buddy shot. Hit him right in the butt of the wing (shooting MB's also).

My bird finally expired and we decided to wait it out for a few more of the other birds that we heard. A tom with five hens finally showed up. The hens ran right to the Dsd's again and the tom followed. At twenty yards my buddy shot and a inch low again. My buddy practices a lot in the off season so trust me I gave him a little grief.

After picking up all the arrows that were on the ground  we decided to give it another half hour and then pick up.

Within 15 minutes two jakes decided comto give the DSD a butt kicking while one watched from the distance. One of the jakes came in stood straight up and my buddy said, "I have had enough". He pulled back and after he shot I have never laughed so hard in a long time. The jakes head was trying to keep up with the arrow. :D

What a hunt and a great start to the season.

Birds weighed 18.5 pounds, 10 3/4" beard and 1 3/8" spurs both sides.

Third season we had a break in the weather and I decided to head to head to the cabin for a Friday hunt. Made it to the cabin around 1:30 in the morning alarm went off at 4:00 and set up in a place where I knew birds go to once in awhile.
Birds were sounding off everywhere. The hens came out first to the fields stopping by to check out the Dsds and then two toms followed but steered clear by about 50 yards. I could hear at least four more in the woods and finally they showed. Two which must of been jakes looked out into the field and putted off. Seen no reason why they did that.
The other two toms went the same route that the other two went and stopped right behind me. I tugged on the string twice for the Dsd hen to move up and down and here they came right to the jake.
Both birds circled him and the one that I wanted to shoot saw something that he did not like. The whole time I was looking to see which one was the bigger of the two and trying to look at spurs. Well I better decide fast and I figured they were pretty close in size drew and shot.

Down he went, flopped and his buddy hung out wondering what was up. Bird two down and tagged out at 6:30 A.M.

The thing that was ironic is this bird did not have any spurs at all but a double bird. Guess I did not look close enough at the spurs after all.
