Grey bird

Saturday morning one of the hens I saw was a very light grey color. In fact, in the sun she looked almost white. In the shade she looked more of a light grey. It was a really cool looking bird. Has anyone seen off colored birds like that?

Also:

A couple years ago there was a tom around here that was all white except the ends of the tailfeathers were black. I never saw that bird but plenty of people around here did. He was wild as any other bird. He just looked different.

I have an all white hen with black wing feather tips out here in New Jersey. This bird is beautiful and hopefully I can get a picture to show you guys. Do wild birds get color like this or is this probably an escaped domestic bird?

I took this pic on Saturday.
Pretty neat. First one I've seen.
Sure would make a neat mount.

That's a pretty bird. That color is unreal, great picture too. To bad she wasn't sport'n a little beard.

Not for sure but isnt that what domestic turkeys look like?? A guy in my county shot a black pheasant and thought it was rare ended up mounting it and then realized later his neighbors had released a bunch of their pets.. haha he wasnt pleased.

It's amazing that hen even made it to adulthood. You'd think it would be easy pickings for a predator.

The pic looks to be what they call a "smoke phase" which occurs in wild turkeys.
Wild turkeys can have several color variations. They can have a reddish brown color, really dark and the whitish bird that is shown in the pic. I have seen one "smoke phase" hen in my life (it is not a "phase" but that is what they call it). She looks just like the pic, but she has splotches of brown as well, kind of like a piebald deer. She is still alive and I tried to wrap one of my fall turkey tags around her leg last Nov. She has been spotted again this spring.
Turkey and Turkey Hunting magazine did an excellant story on the different "phases" and color variations of turkeys a while back.
