560,000 to be correct, is the number of soybean seeds I spread on my 50ft by 250ft plot. Do ya think I over did it?

Even with 6 inch rows the recommended seed rate per acre is 217 thousand based on 90% germination and 90% emergence. So I put roughly 3 times the seed on roughly 1/3 the area. Yeah, that should work. If one is good then three is better.

I disked the mud, spread two bags, disked again then spread the other two bags. After the rain Saturday night the seeds looked swollen. Here is the catch, the seeds are at least two years old, so if germination slides to 50% I'll have the seed rate about right. Well, right for me anyway.

The only other concern I have is the bags were marked "Research Plot". Who knows, I may have glow in the dark beans. No wonder Turkey River foisted them off on me. He prolly figured better I grow them and see if I grow a third eye than him.

Out of curiosity, I planted some 5 year old sorghum seed on Memorial weekend at 5X the std rate that had about 20% seed viability after a germination test. Nothing grew.....although I really think it drowned.
